Participants hail FISME Design Awareness programme in Bangalore

As part of the Design Clinic programme of the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, FISME organised a design awareness seminar in Bangalore on 18.11.2011 in association with Peenya Industries Association, Bangalore and the National Institute of Design (NID). The programme was attended by more than 40 entrepreneurs and manufacturers who went back immensely satisfied from what they learnt at the seminar. While design experts and speakers made the entrepreneurs aware of the benefits of design intervention in manufacturing, an interactive session that followed allowed participants to ask many questions about the various components of the Design Clinic Scheme and also about the significance of new innovations and design in the manufacturing processes. Most participants requested FISME to organise more such interactive sessions in the near future.

The seminar had the objective of creating a platform for MSME units in and around Bangalore and to help the participants to interact with Design Experts/speakers to understand design methodology and benefits of design in their business, product, process, service and operations. The programme also tried to generate awareness about design and the various hand holding initiatives of the Ministry of MSME under the Design Clinic Scheme.

The programme was graced by the presence of Sri S M Jhamkhandi (Director MSME-DI Bangalore, Prof P Achyut Rao (NID),  Sri.Balasubramanyam.S (President PIA);  Sri.Ravi Basavraju(Vice President – PIA); Sri D T venkatesh (Hony Secretary PIA), Ms. Rekha Gopal and other office bearers. FISME was represented by Sri V N Sastry.

The programme was inaugurated by the traditional lighting of the lamp and floral welcome of the guests. In his inaugural address, Sri.Balasubramanyam.S welcomed all the delegates and the guests for their presence and inaugurated the seminar. In his address he stressed the importance of design for the manufacturing sector and how the various design innovations will help manufacturers in achieving better market penetration.

In his address, Sri S M Jhamkhandi gave a vivid account of how design intervention benefits the industrial sector through various real life experiences. He also apprised the participants about various training programmes related to design being conducted by the MSME Tool Room and the other MSME related intervention programmes of the Government of India. Sri V.N. Sastry in his addressed apprised the participants about the various initiatives being undertaken by FISME towards the overall capacity building of the MSME sector of India.

Prof P Achyut Rao of National Institute of Design, South Zone gave a detailed presentation about the evolution of design process and how one can benefit from it. In his resentation, he also described in detail about the various components of the Design Clinic Scheme and how a MSME unit or association can avail its benefit with minimal efforts.

The technical session was taken up by Sri Ravishankar, Design Consultant, He conducted an interactive session comprising design presentation and one to one interaction with the participants. In his presentation, he told the participants about the importance of design and innovations with real life case studies and the benefits one can derive through design upgrades and innovation. The presentation was followed by a question and answer session, where the participants eagerly participated and raised many queries about the various components of Design Clinic Scheme and also about the significance of new innovations and design in the manufacturing processes.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks from the PIA. The participants very much appreciated the seminar and requested that more such one to one interactions should be organised in the near future also.
